Some Easter Trivia.....

Easter this year falls on Sunday March 23, 2008.

As you may know, Easter is always the 1st Sunday after the 1st Full Moon after the Spring Equinox (which was March 20).

This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hebrew people used to identify Passover, which is why it moves around on our Roman calendar.

I found out a couple of things you might be interested in.

Based on the above, Easter can actually be one day earlier (March 22) but that is pretty rare.

This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see the rest of our lives!

Only the most elderly of our population have ever seen it this early, those being 95 years old or older! None of us have ever, nor will ever see it a day earlier!

Here are the facts;

The next time Easter will be this early (March 23) will be the year
2228,(220 years from now). The last time it was this early was 1913 (so if you're 95 or older, you are the only living people that were around for that!).

The next time it will be a day earlier, March 22, will be in the year 2285 (277 years from now).

The last time it was on March 22 was 1818. No one alive today has or will ever see it any earlier than this year 2008!!!

Bet you couldn't have made through your day if you didn't know that!

Enjoy your journey, one step at a time!

Lily

Lily, thanks for that info - I am very glad to know that Easter will never again be so early - everyone is having a hard time with it here, including all the kids who had such a short semester between Christmas and Easter vacations this year (and their moms!).
Now our last semester will be really long. Oh well! I guess it will just make us appreciate spring all the more when it finally comes.

Well.... I might have made it through the day but it wouldn't have been as fun or informative.

Everyone wanted to know... I am glad you asked.

Happy Easter

Holy (censored).. I'd never knew that. I will try to stay healthy and keep on running so I can live to see the next earliest Easter.

Lily, it's funny, my wife and I were just discussing last week how they determine when Easter falls, well now I guess I know.

Thanks for stopping by my blog, I just started doing this a month ago and I'm already amazed how the network of runners keeps growing.

Best of luck in your upcoming races and Happy Easter to you and your family.

That's really interesting information (seriously). Thanks for looking it up and sharing it. For the story of the origin of the Christian celebration of Easter, see John 20 and Luke 24.
