Just the stuff going on

Yesterday was not what I had anticipated it would be.

After having breakfast and blogging, I waited around for it to warm up a little then dressed in what I thought would be enough layers and got Ruby ready for a ride. I headed out of the bay and was hit with a really strong, very cold headwind! Yikes, it was very cold out and I was really cold in no time flat, have I mentioned I HATE being cold? I ended up turning back towards home and cycled around in some of the cul-de-sacs in Constance Bay, then finally gave up and headed home. Unlike Leslie who is a hard core cyclist, he was out yesterday riding the 300 km Animalthon.

When I got into the house I wanted to warm up my hands so I turned on the bathroom sink taps and "splash" water was flowing everywhere!! Yikes, I turned off the water and grabbed the closest towel. While I was mopping up the mess and trying to figure out what just happened I heard more water running, what? where??, I heard Lily running around down in the basement.

The pipe that was connected to the drain pipe had disconnected and unbeknown to me, the slip sod plumber I had used a few years ago (no, this wasn't his first error), hadn't connected the pipes properly nor had he sealed the floor around the pipes running from the bathroom to the basement, water was pouring down the hole into the basement RIGHT where I have Lily's litter box!! Gah, water was everywhere, clumping cat litter had exploded out of the cat box due to the force of the water and was everywhere, what a freeking mess. Needless to say, by the time I mopped up the mess upstairs and downstairs, I was livid....

I suppose if you pay peanuts you get monkey's, but honestly, don't you think that if you were in a trades profession you would at least do a good job? Good news is briefly mentioned but bad news travels fast in my community.

Now I have to find a plumber, obviously a different one, to fix this mess before my father comes up to visit in a couple of weeks.

Speaking of my father,

Happy 89th Birthday Dad!!!
I love you
and
will see you in a couple of weeks!
(he promised me he'd quit driving when he turns 90!)

Life's fun if you don't weaken,

Lily

Oh man, sorry to hear about the plumbing fiasco. Not the best way to spend your Sunday. I hope you find a good plumber at a decent price to fix 'er up. Happy Birthday to your Dad! You must be so excited to see him.

Ack! Sorry. That sounds infuriating. And you didn't even get to warm up your hands. Good luck finding a good plimber and getting repairs done.

Happy birthday to your dad!

Crazy! Hope you get that pipe fixed up soon. And I totally agree with you on the "good job" thing. A while back we had a new hot water tank installed. The guy had come a few days before to assess the situation, etc., but when he was finished I came down to inspect the intallation and found that he'd done it in such a way that I couldn't move my dryer back to its original spot. Duh! I gave him the blank stare, as if to say, "You can't be serious!" but received no response. He handed me the paper to sign, indicating that I was happy with the job. When I asked him where I he'd have me move the dryer, his answer (and this floored me) was, "well, can't you just leave it there?". Um, NO! Needless to say, he stayed and fixed the problem, all the while making me feel like I was wasting HIS time. What a loser. A base level of professionalism, derived from a most basic level of pride in ones work, seems to have been missing in my case as well as in yours.

Good luck!

What a drag (about having to get a plumber). But how marvelous your dad is 89 years old. That's awesome! ;)

oy! in the words of Roseanne Roseannadanna... "it's always something!"
No doubt you don't want this guy back. I have "new handy man guy" who I trust who might be able to give me some contacts for you. He watches how guys work before he ever recommends them to his clients. You interested?
You know where to find me.
It might be time for my less than annual trip out there over the long weekend eh? I am taking an extend week end to the 21st.
hang in there...

OMG, what a mess! Almost as bad as coming home from vacation and finding a window had blown out and there were about a gazillion huge flies in the house! (You'd have thought there was a dead body somewhere!) And this cold and wind! Will it ever stop!!@# Lucky you to have dad around so long!

So sorry to hear about your flooding problem, that kind of thing can be a real PITA. As for plumbers nd handymen, you never know what you're getting. We had a guy a couple of years ago (referred by sis-in-law, thanks for that...) who made a mess of the back door (it still leaks) and a side door (it is disintegrating). Then he and his siblings sold an original Norman Rockwell for millions (I kid you not). So my (now) millionaire former handyman is basking in the Mediterranean or Caribbean sun while I'm still dealing with his shoddy handiwork. Where's the karma I ask you.
