What's a girl to do

My Saturday ritual has always been pouring my morning cup of coffee and then sitting down and stalking all of you bloggers and read about what you have been doing, not doing, bitching about, suggesting, reviewing, cooking, racing, running, cycling and yes, what you've been doing to inspire me.

Now that I've been sidelined and yes, truthfully I'm a little lost with what to do with myself at the moment, I even contemplated taking a blogging break, which I have (threatened to do) done before.

No,
I'm not threatening to leave blogsphere
like some other nameless person we all know and love.

But,

with whom I've threatened
we should ALL go and sit on her new front lawn
until she comes back to blogland.

No, I'm not going to leave you.

I just won't be able to write about my running, training, complaining about running in the cold and wind with snow banks up to my ass (I'm 5' 10", you figure out how much snow we get here).

No, I'll be boring you with what I'm doing out in the garden, where I'm going to put my birdbath, and whether I should plant crocus bulbs for next spring, (oh gawd, say it ain't so), or what cookbooks I'm reading, (please, just shoot me now), or God forbid Scrapbooking, (sorry Marie, I love you, REALLY)....

Instead, I'm going to have to get my sorry ass over to the gym and do some real work.  Working with weights, training on the elliptical, rowing machine and the dreaded treadmill (walking only, thank you).  Anything that doesn't involve knee work, so I guess squats are out of the picture.

Tuesday is my first day with the "real" physiotherapist so I'll find out what I can actually do to improve my knee strength.  Hopefully I won't have to go for too long, holy crapola, that is a BIG BUCK industry and I don't have coverage.  So with any luck she can give me exercises to do at home.

Ruby, well, I'm checking to see if she can be picked up today, I need to get out and spin.  As Blue and The Flanders Fat Cat have suggested, I should come over to the light.  Maybe I'll take them up on that, for awhile anyway!

Have a great weekend and remember,

Life's fun if you don't weaken,

Lily

I don't know if you can find one in Ottawa but down here there are a few physios that work out of medical clinics and you can then get the treatments covered under ohip.
Good luck and remember that in past lives all physios were dungeonmasters.

i know it sucks to read blogs when you can't be out there doing the same. I like your idea of sitting on Marcy's lawn! LOL

hang in there, enjoy the gym, and soon you'll be posting pictures of your muscles from the working out :)

just get to the gym. and once it's nice, find a place to swim outside, so you can enjoy the summer. life isn't toally over for you. you just have some rest to do so you can heal.

I totally understand. See Nat Run is one hiatus for a while until I figure what it is I want it to be. Or what it is I need to do to get motivated again.

Good luck with all of it, I'll keep you in the reader until you decide to come back.

I hope you get some good exercises from the physio.

I think recumbant cycle is supposed to be easy on the knee (cardio option)

I'm up for a good lawn-sit this summer and I hear Maine is lovely that time of year...but OMG girl...you gave me a scare...to lose both you and Marcy in the same week would be more than I could bear!!!

I'll read about your workouts and biking with Red religiously (or as religiously as I ever do :-))

I have the same ritual on aturday mornings.

And you can blog about whatever you want! It's your blog.

just take it easy, young lady. you'll be fine! it's all good!

Usually listening to Physiotherapist results in a healthy knee. I will be here to track your progress back to running health.

Have a great weekend.

I'm cracking up at the thought of everyone going to Marcy's lawn. hehe.

I think your approach of making sure you spin/row/etc is a good one.. It sucks, but what can you do?

In the mean time, blog about whatever you want. I often find what people write about is educational for myself. Plus, it's your blog. :)

I don't think you should stop blogging just because you're not out running. You will attract a different crowd if you blog about different interests. ;)

That's okay I'm a gardner myself so when you talk plants/foliage/bulbs/etc... I really do understand.

Nice to know you will be sticking around. I really hope you heal up fast!

Marie promises to not - not yet any way- to chop your head off any photos of you that she was thinking of putting in her albums. Though this could change...

careful because I do believe the scrapbookers of the world are close to over taking the runners of the world....

that's all I have to say on this matter!

I'm so sorry, Laurel. I know exactly how you feel, having been sidelined for the past ... how many months now? Sigh. I'll enjoy reading about your gardening and I can just assure you: However long it will take, you'll be back and kicking butt. Hang in there, sister.

Oh, I love your "Easter Lilly" LOL Absolute adorable. You cat is the best looking cat I've ever seen. Seriously!

Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. Usually when injured we go through the phase first of going stir crazy and later realizing it can lead to opportunities maybe not experienced otherwise. I'm sure you will find ways to keep fit and fill your time!

Sometimes reading about someone's rehab is just as entertaining and enlighting as how they ran a PR. We all learn from what worked and what didn't. So, I hope you won't go on hiatus. When I'm injured, I tend to just be a little more quiet but not silent.

Good luck with the physiologist.

Lily, I am glad you will still be blogging - and I hope your rehab goes well. Take advantage of having some well deserved down time! And if you want a tip for a great read & cookbook, my latest favorite is "Food Matters" by Mark Bittman. I love the book and the recipes are really good, healthy and, most important, easy!

I get frustrated with just one day off! As a fellow knee-problem-person, I was training for the Berlin Marathon and after experiencing some pain, I got checked out and no more long-distance running for me. On the other hand, the Dr. encouraged me to continue with the cycling and I have never looked back since. Take advantage of the rehab time to do other stuff (like blogging!) and make new plans.

I came off a mountain bike hard once. Was headed for operations on my shoulder but Physio had me up and running/riding in four weeks.

They know what they are doing.

No...please don't leave us!! Fingers crossed you get PT exercises you can do at home. I have already used up my allowance for chiro, massage and physio for the year (thankfully it rolls over at the end of June/beginning of July).

Hopefully we will get to hear a lot more about your biking adventures!

Lilly,
thank you for your continued encouragement. I sure needed it over the weekend but the rebel cyclist came good. Dont you dare take a break from blogging or you will ruin my coffee breaks !!!!!!!

Not to worry... I have notified The Family in the arctic circle to make sure Marcy blogs :-)
