Three Things Thursday

  • Blizzard has close to 1,000 kilometers of road miles on him since March 1st.  He even has some trail miles too.  Last Saturday we did a 66K ride along back roads, trails and busy roadways.  I'm starting to be more confident riding with traffic, but trust me, I will never become complacent.  I'm considering taking the Can-Bike Program that is put on by Canadian Cycling Association, Transport Canada and the Ottawa Police Department.  Of course this will be something I will do after I finish putting the 20lbs of Sh*t into the 5lb bag.

  • Speaking of stress, I'm just about at the point for saying the Fbomb with respect to submitting taxes.  After working all day on a computer, the last thing I want to do is go home and figure out CR's software program.  After completing over 43 submissions towards medical expenses from when I blew my meniscus and had pneumonia this past fall and winter, (yes, each invoice has to be done individually with date, amount, what it was for and who is was paid to), they said I had a small error, click here, so I did and it deducted OVER $300.00 from the total it said I was going to get back!  GRRRRRRRRRR.  So I dropped the Fbomb, turned off the computer, had a glass of wine and watched some mindless T.V.

  • I forgot to mention that last Sunday I took a bike maintenance course, it sure looks easy when you know how.  Needless to say, I still don't know "how" and am dreading the day I get my first flat tire.  (I need a Man-Servant).  After the course we were to go on a nice Sunday ride with the group and enjoy the day.  Well, I'm not too sure if I was still tired from the 66K the previous day or whether the wind (which was blowing at 45K) bonked me out, but the group took off and dropped us.  When we finally kinda, sorta caught up with them, I yelled to them to just go ahead and not bother to wait for us.  After that pressure was taken off of us.  We had a perfect ride!!!
Life's fun if you don't weaken,

Lily

a tip - dominic always pumps our tires over the normal 110 PSI. i also recommend you take a hands on class for changing tires. that is the ONLY way i learned (3 years into this crazy shit). good job on the cycling. i knew you would love it.

sounds like the fbombs are definitely warranted...red or white?

I think tax code (in any country) was specifically designed to drive us all mad.
Man-servant sounds like good idea but it is so hard to find good help these days. You just might have to manage by yourself. :)

Hmmm, I call my bikes "she" I wonder are bikes typically the opposite gender of the rider?

That's a lot of distance on your bike! I hope you can keep the no-flat streak alive! I know how to change a tire on my car OR bike!

1000 km since March? You are putting me to shame, Laurel. Are you training for the Tour de France? :-)

You can change a flat tyre believe me. It's not hard. However, don't worry too much about it because should it ever happen that you get a flat on the road, guys will stop and offer their service to the damsel in distress. It works every time ... :-)

I used to feel that way about changing a tire too... but it's really very easy... but try it at home a few times first!! :) Hope you get your taxes in before tonight!! Have a great weekend.

Wine has a way of soothing tax day :-)

WE all need a man servant, preferably one that we can "disappear" when they finish ;)

Taxes time here too! I work 6 months to pay taxes and 6 months for myself: crazy situation!!!!
Before the elections all the parties promise to drop taxes .... before.....after the winners say:"sorry we cannot because the past Government etc. etc."

Glad you were able to get your taxes done! Fun stuff it sounds like.

Good for you for taking the bike maintenance course. I will admit, I felt the same way after mine. That feeling of, "Great, but I still don't know what I'm doing!" My best piece of advice is, practice at home. Practice taking your rear wheel off (because more often than not, your rear wheel will flat), taking the tire off and changing out the tube. If you get comfortable at home with it, it will be no sweat when it happens to you on a ride! And I highly recommend a CO2 cartridge system for flats on the road as you'll get pressure much better than with a hand pump.

Good luck!!

For almost all flats, SpinSkins. They are made by the people that make cloth for bulletproof vests. Good field reports.

I have a flat-fix video on YouTube, but so do a million other peeps, so a good resource.

Except for the kerT markings, your bike looks almost exactly like mine. :D Putting it to good use too.

Man-servant? Perks?
