Disappointed but not giving up

Our Ottawa weather has crept up into the warmish digits, today it is very overcast and the roads are slick due to the freezing rain.  Yesterday I had every intention of going for a ski right after work, but as I left the office it was freezing rain which changed back and forth from rain to corn snow...yuck.

The previous day I had bailed from work early (yes, I'm on contract so I set my own hours).  It was gorgeous, cold and sunny!  I headed to the park to face my Nemesis, "the hill".  After signing in I headed onto the trail that is fairly flat with slight grades until you get further into the forest, I figured I'd warm up and back track to the hill.  Well, somewhere between turning around and getting back to the hill I totally lost ALL confidence and totally wimped and wiped out...I'm so dissappointed with myself, but I'm not going to beat myself up too much, we still have weeks of skiing left in the season...so you bastard, I'll break you, you won't break me!!!  And yes, I fell, and said the "F" word, many.times.  GAH!

Ruby will be going on the trainer this weekend, I check every day to see if the registration is open for the Rideau Lakes Bike Tour in June.  I'm going to ride the 100k from Perth to Kingston, stay overnight at Queens University and ride back the next day.  This was the tour I was to do last year but had to bow out because of my knee.

A good friend of mine asked me yesterday if will I be putting up my 2010 goal races on my sidebar like I have for the past several years.  Well, in truth, I'm going to wait until it gets closer to race day before I register for events this year.

Last year I registered for a shit load of races early in the season and couldn't compete in ANY of them, so I reference 2009 as a year of very expensive coolmax Tshirts.

This Sunday is the Richmond Road Race, I am entered and will be running the 5K, and I have also registerd for what sounds like an absolute riot of a run in June.  The Perth Kilt Run.   If you are one of the first 500 hundred to register, you get a Kilt to run in, no kidding and you get to pick your kilt colour!  Well, I picked Yellow (I hope it is tartan).  My Scottish friend James is registered too, so it should be an absolute whoot!

Not too sure what else will catch my fancy this year, I am not going to run the same races over and over again, so I am looking further a-field and for some reason the Subaru IronMan 70.3 Muskoka keeps calling my name.  We will see how the knee holds up when I increase the distance before I make my decision.

Vickie and I have been talking about meeting up for a get together race like we did two years ago, Jeff (who has fallen out of blogland) wants to get into the mix too!  Maybe we can meet somewhere in the middle of Ottawa and Grand Rapids and get Shelley to join us for some fun too!!!  This will definitely be a party!!

To Be Discussed!

On a side note, I have had a ladybug living in my kitchen for months now.  She was very active and noticable during Christmas, I would put out droplets of water and citrus juice for her and little bits of fruit for her to nibble on, then she flew off into another part of the house.  I spotted her in the kitchen this morning and put out some apple for her....does anyone else have a ladybug living with them???

Just one other question,  what the hell happend to spell check on blogger???

Life's fun if you don't weaken,

Lily

You will conquer the hill!!!

Sounds like a good plan for 2010. Here's hoping the injuries remain at bay and you come out of 2010 with some more medals and bibs for your collection.

Awww, sorry about the fall, but you're right, it won't be you, you are stronger and tougher than that hill!! Interesting about the 70.3.... I'm on the fence. I originally was looking at doing an Olympic to finish the season, but am totally pondering the 70.3. Just need a bit more confidence I think. Let me know if you do though, I'd love to meet you! The bike tour sounds interesting too! You're going to have an awesome 2010!

I know you are going to conquer that hill, just give it a bit more time! I think it is really cool that you have a pet ladybug - there were several in our Christmas tree this year, but it never occurred to me to put food out for them. Better next time!

Okay what will you be wearing under that kilt???? That will be a fun event, if everyone is in the right frame of mind.

Hopefully your ladybug is keeping your houseplants free of pests!

And yes, you will triumph over the hill!

the kilt run sounds awesome. down here i just have to run in a dress by myself and get funny looks from the conservatives.

A Ladybug would be The Perfect Pet!

You are going to conquer the hill. I just know it!

LOL at the really expensive coolmax shirt comment. I'll have one of those in a couple of weeks (GAH!)

I'd have to wear some compression shorts under a kilt (thigh chaffing and all that), but wondering what everyone ELSE is wearing? That'd keep me entertained for the whole race. hahahaha

Kilt run?! Sonofa... if I lived in Canada I'd be screaming 'sign me up!' right about now.

During the holidays I noticed quite a few ladybugs residing in my mom's house. She tried to relocate them to safer places in the house so we didn't accidentally step on them.

Hi Lily!

It is always so nice to catch up with you. I am picturing you giving that ski hill the one finger salute and I know you will get the best of it. I am hoping that 2010 is going to be an amazing year devoid of injuries. You deserve it!

All the best,

Bill

It's just a matter of time for the hill, you'll win for sure!
I'll take that as advice and not sign up too early for future races...just in case :)
What did you name your ladybug?
Hope 2010 is relatively injury-free. Cheers!

Just one ladybug? That's unique. I think she should have a name.

quite a post! probably a good plan with regard to registering for races. i always wait til the last minute - cuz you never know. you could always do a goal race sidebar. so cool that you have a ladybug in your house and you are caring for it! i have no idea what their life cycle is but they are a good bug for sure. sounds like you are too.

You'll show that hill who's the boss sooner or later.

I'll stick around and try to find you in Richmond, I'm doing the 10k.

A buddy of mine did the Muskoka 70.3 and says it's a very tough bike course, and the run wasn't much easier. The Rideau Lakes bike tour would be really pretty, take lots of photos!

What, pray tell, is snow corn?!

I had a similar financial fallout from signing up early for popular (and expensive) races to secure a spot. Heck, half the time I didn't even get the T-shirt. A friend who has never done a tri just signed up for a full Ironman w/o yet even owning a bike yet because she heard the race would sell out in 24 hours, which it did. I sure hope she makes it to the starting line since that was a $600 investment.

I just about fell off my seat reading Anne's comment!! Wow...

Anyhow, that kilt race sounds fantastic! Hopefully we will get to see pictures of said kilt. I can't say I blame you for wanting to wait to sign up for stuff. I'm waiting for some registrations too unless I know they are going to sell out.

And did you say Muskoka? Woohoo!!

Never know what you're going to come up with. A ladybug living with you that you feed. Too funny!
