Three Things Thursday

Things have been hectic now that I'm back training so between cycling and running, I'm not sitting in front of my computer.  Please don't think I'm ignoring you, but I have to get my rear in gear for all of this summer cycling.

Life is busy in a good way.  This weekend is our first annual Wooo Hooo Winter Triathlon.  I'm organising this a little late in the season, but the weather gods have been very kind to us and we are expecting just stellar weather for this event.  Our tri consists of three teams of three.  Runners, xcountry skiers and snowshoer's.  It is going to be a hoot!  Team names are:  Fitzroy Flurries, The Snow Angels and the Uniboob Bombshells.  For anyone who has ever worn a sportsbra, you'll understand the context to later name, and yes, that is the team I am on!!!

Bear with me while I ask this question, Can Cancer Really Be Beaten???  I'm struggling to believe this right at the moment.  My very good friend who had a brain tumour removed this past fall was given a clean bill of health and off she went to her winter home in Florida.  I recieved a phone call on Sunday that she has been hospitalised and is in a coma, the tumour has returned with a vengence.  Please tell me that they didn't know that a cancerous tumour would grow so rapidly that within two days, she is virtually gone.  One of my running partners (not a Wooo Hooo), informed me on Sunday morning that she has been diagnosed with Breast Cancer, her surgery is on the 16th.  She is a nutritionist and is fit, fit, fit, what chance do we mere mortals have if someone who has dedicated their life to being healthy is diagnosed with cancer?  It boggles my mind as to where all this money goes that we so gleefully walk / run and fund raise for, right now I'm not a believer.

Our weather has been unbelievable this winter, (sorry, I know the rest of you have had to deal with craptastic weather), I actually got my very first ride on Blizzard the other day.  It was only 15km but holy schnittzzzz that bike is F.A.S.T.!  This morning I've received two emails asking if I'd like to join in on a 40K ride this Saturday, but since I'm committed to the winter tri, a group of us are going to cycle on Sunday after our run.

get your lazy A$$ in gear, summer is here!

At 5:30 the alarm went off this morning as does every weekday morning and I'm lying in bed contemplating getting up and getting out for my ride on Ruby really EARLY.

I use to get up at the butt crack of dawn and ride my mountain bike around the bay, which is a nice 10K loop, with a few rolling hills and great scenery of the Ottawa River. It really is very nice, but for some reason over the past few years I stopped doing it. In fact, since the beginning of 2009 I've stopped doing a lot of things. There is absolutely no reason why I can't get back into this little habit, it in fact would be really good for me if I did. Note to self, get your lazy A$$ in gear. Am I suffering from *Agoraphobia?

*From the Greek words Αγορά (Agora, public place, often a marketplace), and Φοβία (Phobia, an intense often irrational fear). It is actually a fear of all open, public places, especially crowded places. Victims could even find leaving their secured environment (house), physically impossible. As they may experience drowsiness and often loose consciousness.

Well, I haven't consciously lost consciousness, nor am I any more dopey or drowsier than normal. Who knows, but it something to contemplate. LOL.

This weekend was our first full weekend of nice weather. Unbelievable, we actually hit "average" temperatures, two days in a row! How freeking great is that?? Geezzzz, someone please tell the weather gods that I need my sunshine and warmth, paaaallleeezzzzzzzzzz!

On the running front, well, I need to find my reason to run again. I'm missing it and need to shake it up a little. It is hard when you have no real goal. I've never really been one to set goals, but I need to set one now.

So, here goes....whether I walk it or run / walk it, I'm going to register for the Canadian Army Run
Half Marathon in September.

I'll do a few little 5K and 10K over the summer and work towards the half. Nothing like setting the bar really high, but what the heck, you got to set a goal don't you!
