I have to say this health scare brought a few things to mind while I was struggling to breathe and being on my own:
- carry proper I.D.; *(see note below)
- make sure your personal information is up to date; (the hospital had my former significant other listed as the emergeny contact and I haven't talked to him in 10 years).
- if you are single (like me), make sure you have a friend or friends who are willing and able to make decisions on your behalf, just in case you are unable to;
- do not hestiate to contact 911, that is why they are there, you pay for it, use it.
Every since I started running a little more seriously and a lot more regularly and being the consumate worrier that I am, I looked into some sort of I.D. to either carry or wear. For years now I have been receiving emails from Active.com. and basically saying to myself, ya, right nothing will happen to me.
Well, I truly believe things happen for a reason and while I was over at Mel's blog 2nd Chances, she had just posted about RoadID. So I figured it was the survival gods giving me a sign to finally just get some I.D. so;
*I just ordered one of the best products ever. It's called a Road ID - perhaps you've heard of it. If you haven't, go to their website and check it out. Road ID is a great product that could save your life someday.
When I ordered, they gave me a coupon that I could pass along to my friends. Here's the coupon number:
Coupon Number: ThanksLaurel587167
The coupon is good for $1 off any Road ID order placed by 01/10/2010. To order, simply go to RoadID.com or click the link below:

I'm so so glad I asked them if I could share that savings code, and glad I posted it!!! Very happy that you ordered one; you just never know. They have a great sense of humor too... Glad to hear that you're starting to feel better, have a great weekend :)
Yay! I was first!
Hubs and I recently got our RoadID's too. Definitely valuable to have! Thanks for the good lessons/reminders.
Have a great weekend, my friend!
I am glad to hear that you are doing better. I asked my husband for one for Christmas since I just started to get more serious about running. Thanks for the code, I will have to share it with him! Have a great weekend :-0
Thanks for the code. Since I forgot to put this on my Christmas list this year, I'm totally allowed to buy it for myself now. :)
Keep taking good care of yourself, L!
Glad you are feeling better. I got my Road ID a long time ago, before my first half marathon even. Totally worth it!
I asked for a RoadID for my birthday/christmas, we'll see if I get it. Otherwise, I will just get myself one after the holidays!
Great tips. And I am super happy that you are feeling better and on the road to recovery!
Thanks for the reminder, I had been meaning to do this for a long time. I just ordered mine!
Vodka?? Heck ya!!!! Glad to hear you are getting better!! Hugs to you.
So glad you're on the mend, Ottawa races wouldn't be the same without the fear that someone will sneak up behind me ... ;)
Oh, when I worked at the Hospital the paramedics said that adding a contact to your cell phone list called I.C.E (In case of Emergency) with name/address/contact info. of who to contact if they find you in a ditch somewhere...
Glad you are feeling better, road tag ID is a good idea, I should get one!
I'm so out of the loop with Bright and my parents arriving from Germany. I'm sorry to hear about your health scare but glad you are on the mend. Good idea to get the RoadID. I always carry my cycling race license on every ride. Does RoadID stores your blood group, too?
thanks lily! i ordered 2 of them today for the jackal and me!
I've been n the fence about one for a long time I believe I'll get one now.
Thanks for the nudge.

So glad to hear that you're on the mend!
I bought myself a road ID last year, still haven't managed to actually take it with me, doh! Pretty dumb, eh?
Great comment on having friends briefed to be able to make decisions etc. Sucks being independent sometimes doesn't it?
Take care of yourself, and we'll hit the trails to play in the white stuff!
i used to have one. i need a new one w/ an updated boyf number, LOL.
