my year of running and cycling has been up and down like a toilet seat!
Let's start with New Year's Eve,
Up: going to run the Resolution Run with the Wooo Hooo's
Down: a car gets hit while leaving my driveway heading to the race.
Up: a Murder Mystery Dinner after the "non run" race.
Richmond Road Race
Up: raced a solid fast 5K race
Down: really cold & snowy
Up: lunch & birthday celebrations after the race.
Hypothermic Half Marathon
Up: ready to roll
Down: with less than 6K left, was SO cold I couldn't feel my hands nor feet. DNF
Up: some of Wooo Hooo's waiting in the car with coffee & baileys to warm us up! Thanks!
Ottawa Capital Marathon training begins
Up: pace leader for the 5hour group
Down: tear right knee meniscus on a 28K run, have to walk 14K in the freezing rain.
Up: cheer on the group during the marathon & then party with the Wooo Hooo's after the race.
100K Rideau Lakes BikeTour
Up: started cycling consistently.
Down: knee not ready for the distance.
Up: played sherpa & meet the gang in Kingston.
I could go on and on about the up's and down's, the starting and stopping, but the good news is even though I'm not out competing at the moment. I've been able to get some great rides on both Ruby and the Iron Horse. Short runs along the trails in the Torbolton Forest and now that I am no longer a biohazard with my cold, I'll get back to the gym and continue to cycle and run outside while we have this fabulous mild, snow free November!
Life's fun if you don't weaken,
Lily

Kind of sounds like my year! Way to find the positive in all this! :)
Life sure is like that sometimes. Good thing you are so tenacious!
Wow, anything called the Hypothermic half marathon scares me and I'm from MN. You have a great attitude! Maybe it's contagious and if I continue to read your blog I'll catch it!!
There is always and upside to everything if we wont to see it ;)
Thanks for reminding us!
sometimes change is the only thing that's constant. Hang in there, everything will level out soon enough.
Perseverance counts -- and pays off in the end!
I like how you ended with the ups! Have a great weekend :-)
gotta love the mild weather!! just live for the moment and enjoy what you have!
Over all, not too bad eh?
Up and down like a toilet...LOL
It does sound a LOT like my year too. I'm hopin' 2010 will be more up, for both of us!
You have a knack for making the best of not-so-great circumstances.
i agree with Marlene, I love your positive outlook on things :) Have a great weekend!
So glad you aren't a biohazard anymore! Great that you've been able to get in some fantastic fall rides!!
...well, despite the ups n' downs, at least your hopes, dreams n' aspirations weren't all just flushed down the drain...
...just sayin'...
Well BGW, an unexpected yet very welcomed appearance. LOL
You're absolutely correct, it hasn't all gone down the dumper!
Do you know that in plumbing that toilets are the only thing that starts big and goes small?
You need to move down here with us, where life is simple and expectations aren't so great.
Plus we live longer because of it, except fr the ones that try to live like Upper Canadians...
They die young.

A year is a lot of time. So just think of all the possibility of UP for next year!
I was up early this year. Then all down from there. At least with the running. Everything else has been up! :)
Sounds like you've still had a pretty good year to me.
I'm hoping it's topped off with a nice, mild winter.
Bluenoser, thanks for the facts and as for moving, you know I'm trying my best!
Jess: you are SO right.
Laurel, you are having just the best year ever with the Butterbean growing and soon to make an appearance...I'd say your year is UP.
Yup, it's been one of those years, mine has been very similar - injuries, work stresses, little running/cycling. Looking forward to setting plans for next year - we should compare notes!
My 2009 has been a toilet seat, too. High highs and low lows. And it's still going on. So what should we do on NYE to ensure that 2010 will be all up. Hold on a second! Do we want up? The toilet seat I mean? That should be down, right? Always. LOL
Interesting, unique, and good way to recap the year. I hope your knee is healing well.
It may have been up and down, but it's never a dull moment, unless you weaken ;-)
so, things are starting to go in the right direction, eh? :)
At least it was an eventful year :) Here's to hoping 2010 is more about ups and less about downs :)
