However, I am trying to suppress this feeling because, well, as my Wooo Hoooo girlfriends know, I can whip up a competitive challenge in just about anything.
So, here I am, making up pace bands, deciding where I should be in the race and at what particular time, deciding when I should be scarfing back carb-booms, PowerAde, Vector bars, yikes, and marking that in yellow hi-light on my pace band.
I look more like a pack horse than a marathon runner. You can always tell the back of packer's, just like me, they have multiple bottles of liquids, gels, toilet paper, cell phones, dragging a picnic table behind us, hey I should get one of those hats with an umbrella on the top....it certainly won't blow off the speed I travel at.
Now, here is my question! Do I take my camera on this run??
When I went to Phoenix in January I added an extra twenty minutes to my race time by stopping and taking pictures. Well, I had to, it may be the only Phoenix run I ever do in my life. How many times do you get to hug the Sun Devil's Mascot I might ask???
I've been doing a picumentary on most of my longs runs this winter and spring, do you really want to see more of our Parliament Buildings, the back of runner's legs, the belly-dancers that line the race route....I mean really!
Life's fun if you don't weaken,
Lily

A poll was going to be dropped into this post, but I'm at work so you know that every time I'm trying to set up the post, someone cruises by my desk, so, sorry no poll, just leave your answers.
Just like Triguyjt's wife, The Bride, who asks his opinion and then proceeds on her merry way, I may or may not take your suggestion!!! LMAO!!!

I've brought the camera to my first marathon and didn't take any photos. And I find in races, it's just one more thing I don't need to worry about. (Now in NOLA, I wish I'd taken a photo of the "Turn for the Worse" -- really really funny.)
When I did my fun run in Halifax, I had a blast taking photos but it didn't feel like much of a run. (It wasn't a race either.)
I know The Man takes photos on his cell phone. Might be an idea.
If you've already got enough pictures to suit yourself, no need to bring a camera unless you choose. Depends on what you want to do, too. Do you want to focus on having a great run or have fun only? I can't answer that, but whatever you do on Sunday, whether you make your goal, surpass it, or fall short, I wish you the best and applaud your high sense of adventure! I have a feeling it will be a fun time all around. Good luck!
OMG I'm so stoked for you! You're going to kick ass! When I finally run a marathon I'm going to take my camera . . .I think. We have sooooo many more years to deal with time issues, why not make your first one fun, KWIM? You DO know that you will probably run another one, right? ;-)
I'm the same way with the pack rat thing. I always have MORE than enough junk ROFLMAO!
Oy, I forgot to add, if I'm going to roll with Brad Pitt (that's who it's supposed to be. But if you ask me, it looks nothing like him LOL) on the red carpet you know I'm going to be naked :P
Here's what I say. And I AM a camera whore as my daughters tell me - you're racing in your own city - leave the camera behind for the run and concentrate on giving it your best shot. THEN post race day you and I can go re-run the race - (well walk it or drive it if you have me along) and we take the pics LATER. It's not like you don't know where you're going, right? If your cell has a camera you can use that for some of the unexpected stuff, but really run your marathon and go for the time!
LOVE ya
Marie

hmmmmm Camera... not sure.
If it's light and u can squeeze out a few shots then do it... but focus on ur race, have a great time make sure you keep fueling and most importantly and I know you will...ENJOY the moments, you've trained hard & ur ready...
ur going to do so awesome! Big Hugs from FL !
LMAO at back of packer's!!! Seriously, for my first race I had a fanny pack filled with gu, beans, bodyglide, chapstick, sunscreen. I can totally relate.
Good luck this weekend!
Please take a camera. I really enjoy seeing pics from your various runs. My competitive side never rests....which would be great if I was faster. :-) Have fun and good luck!! :-)
Hellllllllllo! My laptop rebelled aginst me and went in a coma. A new battery pack has sotred it out so I can bloodywell post again. Well I'm biased now aren't. Camera all the way for me. There again, the camera is the perfect excuse not to run, for a lazy jack daniels swilling island dweller like me. Hell, why do think I became a photographer. Ok I really appreciate seeing the photos, but understand that is not the main object of the exercise. Absolutely no help whatsover was I?
Take the camera, you won’t regret it!
score seems tied Lily! It's all up to you now. Though I do like Marie's idea. (-;

Well, I took my camera with me on my half marathon and only ended up taking a few pictures before it died, and then it just became dead weight. I didn't ever stop to take pictures, I take them while I run( talent, I KNOW!)
I say don't do it.
But like you said you may not take our suggestions anyways! Whatever it is, You'll be fantastic!
I recommend not taking the camera - enjoy the moments - listen to the sounds, the cheers, concentrate on your thoughts and emotions. Your first marathon only happens once, so really enjoy it, don't worry about pictures. Run your heart out and love it!
Hey, I resemble that remark. I always look like a packhorse when I show up for a race!!
Personally, I have never brought my camera along for a run/race; I think it would be too much of a distraction for me.
You can take your camera ... but I still won't agree that you look like a pack-horse. You look like a runner to me & I know Runners Rock!
Take the camera. I take my camera every time I'm on the bike - mh - maybe not in a race, come to think about it. And hey - absolutely nothing wrong with being competitive - alright?
camera or not, have fun!!!!! good luck this weekend!
Good luck this weekend!
No strong opinion on the camera -- I have never taken mine during a race -- but I also feel like I have missed some great photos because of that...
Good Luck!
have fun this weekend and don't get too serious! (-: a reminder!
the bride says to keep shooting...
how about that??? and so do I.
have a great run with gorgeous images to follow.
