Under construction ~ no, Really!!!

Remember a couple of posts ago I was metioning the ups and downs of my 2009?  Well it never seems to end, but isn't that just like life?  The only constant in life is change!

One early, early morning after a rain storm, I went into my clothes closet to pull on my house robe and something felt damp, no it was wet!  So I turned on the bedroom light and went for a closer look.  There were water droplets on my dry cleaning bag that was hanging in the closet...hmmmmmmmmmm, then I heard "plunk" a water droplet hit the plastic bag again....double hmmmmmm.  I looked up and there it was, the leak in the ceiling that was dampening my clothes and my spirits....

Water had been seeping into my house of an unknown period of time and had finally pooled and was finding a way into the interior...forget about the hmmmm, now it is more like *shit* how much damage has been done?

I called my trusty friend with whom I use to work with when I was actually working on site construction and he came over for a look. The water had come in from the old chimney stack that had been used for, a) at one point in time a wood stove; b) now un-usable propane fireplace....Water was actually pooling on top of said fireplace....*SHIT*.

So, what went from fixing the roof now became a wall tearing, insulation damage / removal, pull out the fireplace adventure!

Well, what's money when you don't have it, I always say,  let's replace the fireplace with a shiny new Napoleon gas burning fireplace and build a nice wall unit around it....why not!!!!   Oh, and let's throw in a brand new hall closet while we are at it, because after all....it was damaged too!

So, *fireplace is in, wall unit not....**hall closet had to wait for the fireplace....

I've been living under construction for over a week now, but you know what?  It's going to look great when its done!!

Life's fun if you don't weaken,

Lily

** hall closet pictures to follow after that!

I'm living in construction also - due to backyard renovations. Not fun while it is in progress, but should be great when it is completed!

It's so true, this stuff only happens when funds are low and patience even lower.

OMG! a disaster! i love your tone in this post - like the ridiculous-ness of the whole situation. i am sorry you had to spend the $$! :(

Hmmm. It could have been much worse. Only a week of construction - my wife is laughing at you. (sorry) We were living in a construction zone for the better part of a year as most of the house was having stuff DONE to it. Hope it all gets finished up soon and looks as nice as you hope.

Bummer...been there already this year (in the under construction zone), but when it'd all done, so worth it!

It sucks to live in a construction zone, but I'm sure it will be fabulous when it's done!

Ha ha! Love comment number one about all the studs you're living with!!

Oh sh*t... that is never a good thing. Glad you were able to see the bright side and make some improvements. At least you can take advantage of the tax credit. ;)

Can't wait to see the "after" pics.

...lily / marlene...just checking to see where some of your regulars are from, laurel...marlene hails from newmarket, ontario...
...yep...while i did spend my early childhood in the true north (strong & free), i grew up in newmarket through most of my schooling (until they threw me out)...

...bit of a shock for this ex-pat canuck to think of the old home town...no family back there anymore but still, a wakeup...

...43 years ago, when i left for a different life "on the road" (thank you, jack kerouac) & ultimately california there were 7,000 maybe 8 thousand folks in newmarket & the last census figures showed over 70,000...whew...

...by contrast, out here in "crowded" california, the town i live in just north of the golden gate bridge had about 7,300 people when i got here & 43 years later we've jumped up to about 7,800 folks...
...(to be honest, the "greater bay area" has grown exponentially but our little county of marin has wonderfully kept tabs on things like over-building)...

...somehow, i got the best of both worlds...that small town, strong canadian upbringing & now the snow free beauty of coastal califoria & it's awesome bike riding...

...had my ups n' downs but definitely feel blessed...& "lily on the road", pardon my long reflective post...

BGW, not having any other way to converse, I'll just say I lived in the Aurora, Newmarket, Holland Landing region for many years because of the active equestrian world there.

I'd love to catch up via email, just let me know....

ps BGW, you are the only one who has ever picked up on "on the road", kudos!
