Just sometimes

You have to start from scratch.

I'm learning that just because I've been able to run long distances at a fairly reasonable pace, when you start back from an injury that will never get better than it is, you have to start slowly and you have to go shorter distances.

This past week, I've been going to the gym and running on the routes that I have marked out over the years at home. I find the dreadmill hard on my knee for some reason, so I'll use it sparingly (while wearing my brace) and use the gym for weights and spin classes.

It'll be fine, I have come to terms with the fact I'm running my way to a knee replacement.

The weather has been so typical of fall, warm, wet, sunny and windy, you don't have to wait very long for the weather system to change, in fact yesterday it was sunny and bright at the front of my house and it was raining with a thunderstorm in the backyard...no kidding. The weather gods are having a lot of fun.

I'm hoping to get a lot more ride time on Ruby before she goes onto the trainer for the winter, worse case scenario, I bring out the Iron Horse (mountain bike) and hit the trails, see how the knee holds up on those adventures.

Well, that's it for now,

Life's fun if you don't weaken,

Lily

The thunder yesterday was very impressive! Hopefully there will be some nice biking weather on the horizon.

Same thing goes for us Iron peeps. Just cause we did 140.6 miles doesn't mean crappola the next year :-)

I understand. I'm in the same place of starting over after not running at the end of my pregnancy. Patience, the endurance and speed will return. Or, so they tell me :)

I dread the whole gym thing - glad to hear you are back at it again - I don't think it matters so much the speed or distance - time should be the focus - as in a I ran for 20 min today and balance it out with weight training/core/stretching - add small increments of time when you are ready

I think yr photo sums up your approach the best! (-;

Good for you. My knees have been killing me and I haven't even run a block let alone a marathon.. hey! maybe that's the problem!?

Let's compare replacement notes... titanium vs platinum - surgeons, drugs etc...

It's scary how quickly we cna lose seemingly everything, isn't it? But you're keeping active and that is AWESOME! Hope you and Ruby can enjoy some of this beautiful weather together!

Fitness levels are lost so quickly and takes forever to regain. It sucks, yes. "Running my way to knee replacement." LOL Sounds about right. ;)

We have that kind of weather here sometimes, too. You choose your route according to the look of the sky and the wind direction. :-)

Wow, that is some crazy weather in such a small area!

Good luck with your new workout routine. I know it must be hard to start from what you think is scratch but remember there are many others out there who haven't even gotten that far.

Whatever you can do is better than doing nothing. :-)

That face! What an expression.

I know exactly what you mean. I'm starting to run again and realizing lost time also means lost aerobics and muscle. Let's both be grateful we are at least ambulatory again.

Ah yes, the weather gods are having lots of fun over here too. 17C with crazy winds yesterday. Tiny flakes of snow blowing in the wind today.

Bring on October...woohoo!!
