It only hurts when I move...

I learned yesterday during our 29K run that despite all of my stretching, babying, bullying, cajoling, I think my S.I. joint is going to win this battle.

It is odd, since I've never had this issue before December 2008 or January of this year, especially on my right side (it was my left hip that was damaged due to the horse falling on me). see post

I was enjoying a lovely run in the cold driving rain yesterday when my lower back tightened up and I had an amazing spasm in my S.I. joint that travelled down my leg and locked up my right knee. The pain doubled me over it was that intense. We were just heading on to a trail in front of Andrew Hayden Park so I still had a long distance to go before I got back to the store.

I ended up walk / running until I got to the Mlacak Centre, I called the Running Room on my cell phone and Cecilia and her husband Mark came to collect me.

Although I am disappointed that I may have to forgo the marathon (we will see), I am not stupid enough to inflict further injury, luckily my serious competitive nature is dwindling. ; )

I will definitely miss running with the group (even for a little while), they are all doing so very well. I'm so proud of them, yesterday was the longest many of them have ever run and it was disappointing for me not to be able to cheer them on the last few Km's.

Anyway, I'll see how it goes, what my major concern is my right knee, it is showing signs of stress too and I don't want another knee injury because that would affect my cycling. Oh, the trials and tribulations of aging (not so gracefully)!!

Well enough of my whining, thanks for listening (you really didn't have a choice did you? hahahaha).

Life's fun if you don't weaken,

Lily

Aw, Laurel, I'm sorry. :( I hope it's nothing too serious and you are on the road again soon. Take care!

{hugs} sorry to hear about the pain, but you absolutely did the right thing by listening to your body and not forcing yourself to continue. Take care of yourself, and keep us posted!

Laurel, so sorry to hear about the injury, there will be a next time so take the time for healing. BTW I will now have to do some googling on S.I. joint, I get that it is lower back but inquiring minds have to know (more).

I'm so sorry to hear that! I was injured enough last year to understand how much it stinks to be sidelined, but your health is most important. Just gotta do whatcha gotta do

Oh no Laurel!!!! I hope it feels better soon. Sigh...all of this training...I feel your pain? It almost seems like for me - a new day, a new problem. Piriformis...shins...right knee...left ankle on Friday/Saturday...right knee on Sunday..?? Oy... I thought all of this activity was supposed to be good for us?

The most important thing is to take care of this and get healthy. The longer you wait, the worse it will get and the longer you will be away from running. If you have to miss a race or two, that's fine as long as you get back healthy and ready to go.

Aging? I always feel like that. I don't know what it is to not have an ache or twinge. I'm not as smart as you and I keep going, that's what replacements are for! Take care.

the SI joint - non running me here... took a good 10-12 weeks before I had zero pain. And now every now and again... I get a twinge and revert back to the serious physio exercises - the heat - the cold - and the occasional acupuncture treatment.

You're thinking is good. Take care of yourself so you can keep biking if not walking and running.

Sounds like we need to save a few pennies and head to Le Nordik- heat sauna, nice lunch.

Sorry to hear about your injury. I was just thinking about how awesome you are doing, hopefully this is a minor setback, you are smart to listen to your body!

I think I"m going to dub this "injury winter." It's worse than the flu...

Take care of yourself. There are other marathons

It's not whining..
Just take it easy and let yourself heal a few days. See how it goes..
Hang in there, We are all *crossing our fingers*

I feel your pain. I had to cancel last year's Las Vegas Marathon due to a knee injury (non-running related, knee was struck with flying luggage). Realized that running a marathon when hurt is not smart...my lifetime health is my main goal not any particular event. Hang tough!!

Oh, I feel bad I've been SO far behind on reading blogs so I didn't know your problem had turned into an injury. Hopefully you won't be sidelined for too long. Take care and get back out there when you can!
